Virender Sehwag smashed his 13th century in ODIs when he scored a ton against New Zealand in the sixth game of the Micromax Cup tri-series at Dambulla. Sehwag’s century rescued India from a precarious position at 66/4 to lift them to a good position.

India plays New Zealand in the last league game of the Micromax Cup tri-series which is being played in Dambulla in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka, which is the third team in the tournament, has already qualified for the final after their resounding win over India in the previous game.

That means that this game between India and New Zealand is a virtual semi-final – the winner will play Sri Lanka in the final. Of course, an abandoned game like New Zealand’s previous encounter against the Lankans will see them through to the final at the expense of India.

The Gods are certainly not in favour of a healthy India-Sri Lanka cricketing relation, and for the second time in successive weeks, there is enough potential for the media to take the acrimony to newer depths.

In the fifth game of the Micromax Cup tri-series, Sri Lanka beat India by a whopping eight-wicket margin and with almost 37 overs to spare, but not before there were some horrendous and controversial decisions given by Kumar Dharmasena and Asad Rauf against the Indian batsmen.

In the previous game between India and Sri Lanka, Virender Sehwag had been denied a century by Suraj Randiv’s deliberate no-ball, that had snowballed into something very controversial.

India beat Sri Lanka by seven wickets in the third ODI of the Micromax tri-series at Dambulla. Virender Sehwag’s well-played and a matured innings of a an unbeaten 99 saw the Indians through to the win with more than 15 overs to spare and that meant that India got a bonus point as well.

India will face Sri Lanka in the third match of the Micromax Cup tri-series that starts on the Monday, August 16. India had not only lost the first game of the series (highlights of India-NZ game here) but were so badly outplayed that it hardly looked like a second ranked team playing in the game.

On the other hand, Sri Lanka had a neat, little workout against the Kiwis, and though, the finishing was not as brilliant as they would have liked, what would have warmed their hearts was the fact that they won the game after chasing under the lights.

The second game of the Micromax Cup tri-series will see Sri Lanka take on the Kiwis on 13 August, 2010 at Dambulla. New Zealand will go into the game with as much confidence as they ever would have after having stunned the Indians with a 200-run defeat.

Sri Lanka, on the other hand, will do well to shrug off their complacency against an opposition which, at the start of the tournament, could best be termed as an underdog. Not any more.

New Zealand crushed India in the first ODI of the Micromax Cup at Dambulla by a whopping margin of 200 runs. Chasing a target of 289 for a win, the Indian team could not face up to the swing and bounce of the Kiwi pace bowlers and were bowled out for 88.
