Big Bash League 2013-14 schedule: Tournament to be shifted forward
The Big Bash League schedule for the 2013-14 season has been released and can be seen at the end of this piece.
There will be no increase in the number of teams in the Big Bash League this season according to the Cricket Australia. This means there will be a total of eight sides in the competition.
The board also decided to push forward the start date of the tournament to late December in a bid to allow first-class cricket to maintain its primacy and improve Big Bash League stadium crowds.
Cricket Australia Board held a two-day strategy review meeting over Thursday and Friday where they voted to keep the number of teams at eight.
Melbourne and Sydney have two teams each while Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and Hobart are the remaining four cities that take part in the competition.
The Big Bash League started on December 7 last season meant that there was a huge drop in stadium crowds as compared to the pre-Christmas crowds from the previous season.
This season, the Big Bash League begins from December 20 with the final to be played on February 15.
Now Cricket Australia will push the matches forward to after Christmas to maximise the revenues from stadium crowds.
According to reports, the average attendances post-Christmas increased by almost 50 per cent compared to the same time in 2011-12.
Here’s the Big Bash League schedule for 2013-14.
