Mumbai Indians v Rajasthan Royals IPL 2011 Live Score and Highlights

Big Picture:

A team which was supposedly through to the playoff phases halfway through the IPL are now struggling to rake in wins and one would wonder whether the team which was considered ‘unbeatable’ in this IPL had peaked at the wrong time. Talking of peaks, one team which has definitely not seen the upside of it are the Rajasthan Royals who have already bowed out of the tournament and would be looking to end their campaign on a high. Mumbai Indians batting order has collectively failed whenever they have been asked to perform on a ‘slower track’ and they will be looking to end that considering their possible opponents in the playoffs would be teams who thrive in slow and low conditions. However for them to reach there they will have to brush past a Rajasthan Royals side which has definitely lost steam in the business part of the tournament. Shane Warne after surviving a match ban following his dispute with the RCA will be playing his last match in his glorious cricketing career and that should be a motivation for the rest of his young brigade to deliver a performance good enough for the ace spinner to savor his IPL victory with the same franchisee in the first year of its conception.

Pitch:

Wankhede track is a safe haven for the batsmen and a total of 190-200 batting first looks a winning target.

Mini battles:

Sachin Tendulkar vs Shane Warne- Have we heard their names before? If anyone says this before watching this match cricket is certainly not your cup of tea mate. A battle that should satisfy the dreams of a poignant cricket supporter is on the cards. They have played against each other for such a long time and being such legends of the game they will know what they have to produce against each other during the match. Outside leg stump rough anyone?

Lasith Malinga vs Rahul Dravid – They both will face each other at the top of the order and this will be a contest between Malinga’s un canniness and Dravid’s rock solid technique. Dravid can be expected to see out Malinga generally but this not test cricket anymore and he will have to make sure he scores a heavy chunk of runs in his first spell.

Stats Corner:

Head-to-head:
Head-to-head record: Played 6, Mumbai Indians 3, Rajasthan Royals 3.

Prediction:

The match should go in favor of the Mumbai Indians but given the surprises that have sprung up in IPL in the last few matches don’t be shocked to see Shane Warne smiling his way through the presentation ceremony.
