The 77th Ranji Trophy began this morning on a record breaking note in Jaipur. Rajasthan rewrote the record books by dismissing Hyderabad out for a paltry 21, the lowest ever team total in Ranji Trophy.

18-year-old Debutant Deepak Chahar was the wrecker-in-chief dismissing eight Hyderabad batsmen. His figures read 7.3-2-10-8, which is the second-best effort by a debutant in Ranji Trophy’s history. His efforts fell short of Maharashtra’s Vasant Ranjane, whose 20-9-35-9 in the 1956-57 season is still the best bowling figures for a debutant.

Hyderabad’s Akshath Reddy was the top scorer for the side with six runs, while three batsmen failed to open their accounts. There were no extras in the Hyderabad’s innings which lasted for only 15.3 overs.

Deepak had dismissed MP Arjun off his last ball of the seventh over and Alfred Absolem off the first ball of the eighth over. Pagadala Naidu averted a memorable Hatrick for Deepak, but got out to the very next ball. Pankaj Singh claimed the other two Hyderabad wickets.
