Chennai Super Kings v Royal Challengers Bangalore highlights: Raina drives Chennai to final
Chennai Super Kings beat Royal Challengers Bangalore in the first semi-final of the Champions League T20 at the Kingsmead in Durban by 52 runs. Watch the highlights of the Bangalore-Chennai match at Durban on Star Cricket on Saturday.
For most part of the start of the game, it looked like the Chennai Super Kings would emerge the entrants into the final given that it had rained in Durban though the evening. In case the match was to be rained off, the side with more points in the league stage would have gone through; which was Chennai in this case.
However, when the play actually begun, the game was reduced to 17 overs a side. The Super Kings had started off slowly before the rains had come down, but immediately after resumption, Michael Hussey tried to smack the ball over the mid-off fielder. Dale Steyn went back and caught the ball, but in the process, hurt his head and back rather badly and was taken off the ground.
While Hussey was out, it also meant that Steyn could not bowl four very crucial overs and that proved to be the turning point of the game.
Suresh Raina came into bat at the number three position and sent the ball hurrying to all parts of the ground. Raina slammed six glorious sixes and five fours, as he got to another big 50 to follow his 87. He made a 48-ball 94 and remained unbeaten till the end, as Chennai ended on 174/4 in their 17 overs.
Chasing ten runs per over was always going to be difficult and even more so when one of their batsmen, Virat Kohli had become the second casualty while fielding. He had injured his back as well and walked out of the park.
Kohli did bat later, but by then, the game was well and truly in the Super Kings bag. Manish Pandey did show some resistance with a 52, but none of the others passed 15 as the side collapsed to 123/9 with Steyn not being able to bat.
Doug Bollinger scalped three wickets in the innings, but Raina was declared the man of the match.
