Butt, Asif, Amir to return to Pakistan
The tainted trio of Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir will be returning to Pakistan in the next couple of days. This was announced by the interior minister of Pakistan, Rehman Malik.
Malik also added that this does not mean that the trio were exonerated, and they will be available for questioning by Scotland Yard, whenever required. The Pakistan government will need to give a written assurance about it.
Butt, Asif and Amir were suspended by the ICC for their alleged role in spot fixing. They were questioned by the Scotland Yard, but no charges were laid on them. Now, it has emerged that a fourth player, Wahab Riaz has been called up by the Scotland Yard for questioning as well.
Malik said, “We have spoken to Scotland Yard, and the high commissioner to the UK, Wajid Shamsul Hasan, has also been in talks with them and they have agreed that the players can return to Pakistan. The ministry of interior will provide a written assurance to Scotland Yard that the players will be made available whenever they are needed.”
