England v Pakistan, Highlights 2nd T20I at Cardiff: England win easily to win series 2-0

England did lose four wickets, but in the end, they won the second T20I against Pakistan with six overs to spare. Chasing 90 to win the game, England smacked the runs against Pakistan in the second T20I off 14 overs to win the series 2-0.

Chasing 90 was never going to be difficult for the English side, despite the lack of a strong batting line-up that they possessed. Shoaib Akhtar stuck early to get rid of Steven Davies, while a razor-sharp Umar Akmal saw the back of Craig Kieswetter to leave them at 26/2.

However, Paul Collingwood and Ravi Bopara saw to it that there was no major collapse, while the pair of Eoin Morgan and Michael Yardy managed to repeat their previous game heroics to see the home team through to an easy win.

However, it was a batting performance that would have left the Pakistanis wondering whether it would have been a better decision to abandon the series after the Tests got over. If the 126/4 at Cardiff in the first T20I was a paltry total, then the second England-Pakistan T20I at Cardiff had more surprises in store for the Pakistani side.

The Pakistani innings got off to a similar start as the previous match, when Ryan Sidebottom was taken for 11 runs. However, that was, by a distance, the best over of the innings for the Pakistani side; the side went downhill after that.

There was a buzz about wicket-keeper Kamran Akmal being called up by the ICC for another spot-fixing instance in the Asia Cup, and it seemed to have affected him clearly. In much like the first game, he smacked a couple to the fence, before Tim Bresnan had him pulling a short ball to mid-wicket. This was the start of the bowling of short stuff by the English side as they found that neither the pitch had any swing nor were the Pakistanis too comfortable against the deliveries not pitched in their halves.

Yousuf went pulling as well, to Bresnan, Shahzaib Hasan was rattled by the bouncer and he could only feather a pull to the wicket-keeper, while captain Shahid Afridi tried to hook a ball outside the off-stump but only managed to give it straight to the fielder on the off side.

Evidently, the Pakistanis had tried to get the runs before the spinners came on, and had been unsuccessful at that.

Four wickets had been lost for 22, but Umar Akmal took on Swann and smacked him for a couple of sixes. It was here that he could have shown some restraint; instead, he attempted a third one, was deceived by Swann and was bowled. The rest of the side followed quickly after that and the Pakistanis were bowled for 89 off the 19th over.

Earlier, Pakistan had won the toss and decided to bat first against England in the second T20I at Cardiff. To read more about the Pakistan-England T20I series, click here.
