Kamran Akmal called by ICC for match-fixing probe

The ICC has called upon the Pakistani wicket-keeper Kamran Akmal, for his alleged role in match-fixing. The ICC has said that they need to determine whether there was any role that Akmal played in the match-fixing controversy.

Earlier, there were rumours that the ICC had begun investigations on a fourth player in the recent match-fixing controversy apart from Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Asif and Salman Butt. There are reports in various newspapers that Kamran was known a Kami to Mazhar Majeed, and there were many text messages that he got and sent to people around referring to Kamran Akmal by this name.

There have also been references to conversations between Akmal and Mazhar, which the British tabloid, News of the World has revealed. The conversations also reveal the manner in which the two were friendly and show pictures of both of them together after games in Australia that saw the Pakistani side lose the ODIs 0-5.

Majeed is alleged to have told the tabloid, “We change our phones, and the thing is… you’ve got to get rid of the sim and the phone separately.”
