PCB chairman says Asif, Amir, Butt will play in ODIs
The three beleaguered Pakistani cricketers, Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir, said to be involved in the match-fixing scandal in the Lord’s Test match, reached London on Wednesday. They will now meet the Pakistan cricket board chairman, Ejaz Butt, before being questioned by the Scotland Yard.
The three are allegedly involved in match-fixing after a British tabloid, News of the World, performed a sting operation on Mazhar Majeed, an alleged fixer.
The PCB chairman, Ejaz Butt has continued to say that despite all the pressure exerted by the ICC and the ECB, the trio of Butt, Asif and Amir will continue to play in the T20I series till either of them is found guilty. Speaking to the BBC, Butt said, “They will be free to play immediately,” he said.
Given that the players are now in London, while the rest of the Pakistani cricketers are in Taunton, it is very evident that they will miss the warm-up game between Somerset and Pakistan. The trio of Butt, Asif and Amir will now meet the high commissioner of Pakistan to England, apart from getting questioned by the Scotland Yard.
The tussle between the English players, and their board, both of whom do not want to allow the tainted players to feature in the T20Is till they are proved innocent and the Pakistan board is going to be the talking point in the days to come.
