India v New Zealand, Highlights 6th ODI at Dambulla: Sehwag century sets up exciting game

Virender Sehwag smashed his 13th century in ODIs when he scored a ton against New Zealand in the sixth game of the Micromax Cup tri-series at Dambulla. Sehwag’s century rescued India from a precarious position at 66/4 to lift them to a good position.

Sehwag opened the innings with Dinesh Karthik, but was left without his opening partner very soon, even without the team having scored a run. Virat Kohli, who had come in place of Rohit Sharma, then departed after that, which was followed by Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina – both to short deliveries.

However, that did not stop Sehwag from slowing down as he took on the bowlers with aplomb. He smacked 16 fours and a big six in his century, but his century came off an unexpected single through the covers – unlike what many expect of him.

Sehwag was also involved in a century stand with MS Dhoni, out of which the captain contributed only 31. Sehwag was finally dismissed by Nathan McCullum for a 110 that came off 93 balls. India were 173/5 at this stage in the 33rd over.
