Mohammad Irfan may play for Kolkata Knight Riders
Mohammad Irfan, a fast bowler from Pakistan, who had come perilously close to selection for the Pakistani team for the ICC World T20, has been signed up by the Kolkata Knight Riders for one season. However, the deal will be fructified only if the BCCI approves it, given that the relations between India and Pakistan have deteriorated over the last couple of years.
Irfan, is a left-arm pace bowler and over seven foot tall, which meant that he shot to prominence when he started picking up wickets in the domestic circuit in Pakistan. Wasim Akram, Kolkata’s bowling consultant, had recommended Irfan to the Knight Riders and he was taken to Sri Lanka for three games. Impressed by what they saw, the Knight Riders have signed an MoU with the lanky pace bowler.
The MoU will only get converted into a contract if the BCCI approves the same.
Given that Irfan has yet to play in any international cricket for Pakistan, his selection to any IPL team can bypass the auction process. It is reported that the contract with Irfan is going to be for $75,000 with an additional $2000 for each game that he gets selected for.
