Malinga’s five wickets wins Sri Lanka the game

Lasith Malinga snapped up five wickets in the first game of the Asia Cup to hand Sri Lanka an exciting win over Pakistan. Earlier, Shahid Afridi had threatened to take the game away from the Lankans with a scintillating century. (Read about the Shahid Afridi century here)

Sri Lanka batted first and overcame a middle-order collapse to get to 242/9 in their 50 overs, thanks to an exciting half century by Mahela Jayawardene, and an excellent rear-guard action by Angelo Mathews.

Pakistan were stunned early by a couple of wickets from Malinga, but the Afridi century took the side next to victory. It was only after he started to cramp up and looked totally down and out, that the side made a comeback.

Malinga then ran through the bottom-order like a hot knife through butter to win the game for his side. Malinga ended with 5/33 in the ten overs.
