India v Bangladesh (Ind v Bang) 2nd ODI, Asia Cup, Dambulla Preview, Live Streaming, Videos, Highlights

The second game of the Asia Cup will see India take on Bangladesh at Dambulla on 16th June, Wednesday. The senior Indian side will make a comeback to the international fold with this game, after being afforded a one-month long break by the Board, whereas this Bangladesh side has almost been a part of the international circuit for some time now, month after month.

Live Scorecard of India v Bangladesh match

The World T20 debacle aside, the Indians have had a decent run-up this year in international cricket. As compared to that, the Bangladesh team have shown a decent improvement in the way they have played their cricket and have not been as bad a push-over, as they have shown themselves to be in the past, but their issue have been their results. With a rout against England at home and then in England, they haven’t had anything to show for their results and that has meant that the side will not be in anyone’s fancy.

Having said that, the Indians will do well to recollect that it was in a four-member group, consisting of Sri Lanka as one of the other team, that Bangladesh had beaten them in a World Cup game first up. India will do well to not allow the same fate to fall upon them!

Track Tale:

The tournament will be played at Dambulla, and given that this preview is written, just before the start of the first match, one doesn’t quite know what lies in store for the teams. The fact that no team wants to bowl first after winning the toss in day night games here, means a lot and will make it interesting for the rest of the tournament.

Team News:

India should play with a fairly straight-forward strategy of going in with their two best openers, Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir, followed by the likes of Suresh Raina, Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni and one of Rohit Sharma or Saurabh Tiwary. Rohit Sharma will get the nod ahead of Tiwary in this game after having scored two centuries in the previous tournament.

This will be followed by the likes of Ravindra Jadeja, Harbhajan Singh, Ashish Nehra and Zaheer Khan. The question that remains to be answered is whether India will go with an extra spinner or a seam bowler. My surmise is that India may want to get in Praveen Kumar, given the way the Lankans and Pakistanis went in with only one spinner in their line-up and rest the likes of R Ashwin and Pragyan Ojha in the playing eleven.

Bangladesh will rely on their best batsman in recent times – and probably, of all times – Tamim Iqbal to give them the kind of starts that one is so used to seeing from him. Having said that, the rest of the likes of Mohammad Ashraful, captain Shakib-al-Hasan, and further down, Mahmudullah may need to overcome their inability to convert their starts into something bigger.

Series Standing:

It is the second game of the tournament that was last won by Sri Lanka. India has won this four times but never in the last 15 years, whereas Bangladesh have never even got to the finals of the tournament.

The Odds Checker:

India is the favourites to win the game and William Hill offers 1/5 for their victory as compared to Ladbrokes’ 7/2 for Bangladesh to surprise their opposition. Bangladesh’s odds show that even the bookies think that India may not have it easy, despite, Bangladesh, being the so-called minnows of the side.
