Champions League T20 to have ten teams only
The Champions League Twenty20 in 2010 will see ten teams play the tournament, in comparison with the 12 sides which had played in the inaugural edition. This was announced by the Champions League after England had to pull out of the tournament because of the clash in dates with their own county league.
However, the number of games in the tournament will remain the same, 23 and the format, schedule and venues will be announced later.
In all probability, the Champions League T20, 2010 will see two groups of five teams each, play out a round-robin with the top two sides from each group going through to the semi-finals.
Nine teams have already confirmed their participation, with only the side from West Indies to be known. The other teams which had qualified so far are Chennai Super Kings (India), Mumbai Indians (India), Royal Challengers Bangalore (India), Victorian Bushrangers (Australia), South Australian Redbacks (Australia), Warriors (South Africa), Highveld Lions (South Africa), Central Stags (New Zealand) and Wayamba Elevens (Sri Lanka).
The Champions League T20 this year will be played between September 10 to 26 in South Africa.
