Kaneria arrested, called for questioning by Essex police
Pakistan leg-spinner, Danish Kaneria, who plays for Essex in the English first class season, was arrested by the Essex police in connection with his alleged role in the spot-fixing that was said to have happened in September, 2009.
Essex seamer, Mervyn Westfield, was also arrested by the police and detained for questioning. The game in question was Essex’s Pro40 match against Durham, which was played last September.
Both the players were asked to make an appearance at Brentwood police station on Friday before being afforded a bail till the 15th of September. They can now play cricket for Essex till further evidence is found.
Earlier, there had been rumours of Kaneria being involved in the spot-fixing, but Kaneria had refuted any such claims of the same.
