Updated scenario at the end of this article.
Australia and Sri Lanka have one win from one game, India and West Indies have zero from one.
Let us assume that India beats West Indies, and Australia beats Sri Lanka today. That means that Australia will have two wins from two, and India and Sri Lanka will have one from two, while West Indies will have zero from two. That means that West Indies is out, and the winner of the India-Sri Lanka game will go through to the semi-final; simple.
Now, suppose India beats West Indies and Sri Lanka beat Australia.
That means India and Australia have one win from two games, and Sri Lanka has two out of two. In the last round of games, if India then beat Sri Lanka and Australia beat West Indies, it will be a three-way tie between India, Australia and West Indies and the net run-rate will come into the picture. If India beat Sri Lanka and West Indies beat Australia, then India and Sri Lanka go through. If Sri Lanka beat India and Australia beats WI, then, Sri Lanka and Australia go through, whereas if Sri Lanka beats India and WI beats Australia, then, Sri Lanka go through and one out of the other three teams will go through.
