How Kolkata Knight Riders can get into semi-finals of IPL 2010
There is no such thing as impossible in sports, but Kolkata will realise that their task of getting into the semi-finals is almost that – impossible!
Let us take the example of Kolkata batting first.
If Kolkata score 120, even if Mumbai is bowled out for 0, the KKR team will be out of the tournament.
If Kolkata score 130, again even if Mumbai is bowled out for 0, the KKR team will be out of the tournament.
This story continues till Kolkata get to 173 runs and bowls Mumbai out for 0; only then will Kolkata get through to the semi-finals. If Kolkata score 200, they will need to restrict the Mumbai Indians to 29 runs to qualify for the semi-finals; such is a the futility of the situation.
Let us talk of Mumbai batting first now.
If Mumbai score 100, even if Mumbai bowl all wides and no-balls and the game ends in 0.0 overs, Kolkata will not go through! The same is the case with a target of 200. Even if Mumbai score 300, the Kolkata side will need to score those runs in 1 or 2 balls!
In short, Kolkata needs a miracle to go through!
