Blast outside Bangalore stadium causes delay in start of IPL match between Bangalore and Mumbai
The toss in the game between the Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore was delayed after some loud blast-like noises were heard near the stadium. It is also said that some people were injured in the incident. This includes four policemen and a security guard.
It was reported that the blast-like noises had emanated from the generator room, but no confirmation has come through yet. The incident happened outside the Gate Number 12 in the Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Post this, the cricketers from both sides were asked to get back to the pavillion, and the toss was delayed.
The teams were briefed about “couple of loud noises” and were asked to get back to the dressing room, but later they came out to practice.
While there was nothing to worry about from inside the ground itself, it was said that there was chaos outside the ground. It was also said that sniffer dogs were pressed into action after the blast-like noises were heard.
The police commissioner said that the match will go on as was expected.
In the 2008 edition of the IPL, there was a blast in the city of Jaipur during the tournament as well, but that had not happened on a match-day. Around 60 people had died and 150 people got injured in the blast, and there were talks of calling off the games in the city, but the rest of the tournament had gone ahead without any further hitches.
