Mahela Jayawardene smashes 93 off 62 balls
Mahela Jayawardene smacked a near-match winning unbeaten 93 off only 62 balls to take the Kings XI Punjab to 174/3 in the 20 overs in their game against the Deccan Chargers.
Jayawardene opened the innings for the Kings XI Punjab and started off slowly, scoring only 13 off the first 14 balls at the end of the first six overs. Jayawardene was also dropped at 21 by Rahul Sharma.
However, once Kumar Sangakkara got out, it was Jayawardene’s turn to accelerate but he still struggled as Punjab reached 98 in 15 overs. It was only from the 16th over onwards that he began to cut loose and what a display of batting he gave!
First Rahul Sharma was hit for a six and a four, and then RP Singh was smashed for five boundaries, before 32 came off the last two overs to take him to 93.
