Dharamshala to host first IPL game ever
The Dharamshala Cricket ground of Himachal Pradesh will host today’s IPL game between the Kings XI Punjab and the Deccan Chargers. This is the first time that Dharamshala will host an IPL game.
Dharamshala is said to be one of the most beautiful grounds in the country and its beauty is compared to some of those back in New Zealand. It is surrounded by snow-capped mountains and is 1457 meters above the sea-level. It is said that there will be some swing for the medium pace bowlers thanks to the breeze that will blow across the stadium.
It is also said that the Dalai Lama will watch the IPL game at Dharamshala and the invitation had been accepted.
Dharamshala has already hosted a first class game between the winners of the Pakistan’s first class tournament and the winners of Ranji Trophy in 2005-06, a Sialkot versus Uttar Pradesh game.
Earlier, in 2005, Dharamshala had hosted a tour warm-up game for Pakistan, but had attracted a lot of controversy when it was said that the Dalai Lama was to attend the game. Pakistan did not want to rub the wrong side of China, who does not recognise Dalai Lama’s demand for a free Tibet state and in the end, the Dalai Lama said that he will not attend the game.
