Batsmen struggle to score at the Feroz Shah Kotla again
The pitch in Feroz Shah Kotla was bone of much contention again as the Delhi Daredevils failed to get a big enough total in their match against the Kings XI Punjab on the pitch. Delhi was bowled out for 111 before their 20 overs were up.
The Feroz Shah Kotla wicket had been a subject of much scrutiny right from the Champions League T20 in October, when it played so slow and low, that 120 was considered a defendable total. Most of the players had been critical of the wicket and had said that the Kotla pitch was not meant for T20 cricket.
This was followed by an ODI between India and Sri Lanka in December last year, when the game was abandoned at Feroz Shah Kotla, after the balls were taking off from good length on the pitch. This also led to the pitch being banned by the ICC for a period of one year.
More recently, during the IPL itself, the captain of the Royal Challengers Bangalore, Anil Kumble, had been critical of the pitch for the way it had played. However, the DDCA chief had shot back angrily, claiming that it was Bangalore who had not played well on the pitch and that there was nothing wrong with the Kotla pitch.
Delhi scored 111 in their game against the Kings XI Punjab today, aided undoubtedly by the run-outs of Dave Warner and Gautam Gambhir.
