Lalit Modi plans to have new IPL Carnival from 2011
IPL chief Lalit Modi has said that there will be a few exhibition or festival games of the IPL that will be held outside India every year from 2011 onwards. Modi said that all the sides will play around four to five games outside the country, which will constitute the IPL Carnival.
Modi said that the main IPL will always be played in India, but these festival games will be played around the world. Every team could play a game or so in each of the markets like Africa, America and Europe.
Modi added that this would be a way of generating revenues. He also said that while the advertisers may not be interested in sponsoring one-off games, they may like to sponsor the entire package; the games being held in the eight months from January to September.
Also, the global eye-balls could be a huge incentive for the advertisers and they could look at buying the spots for the entire season.
What remains to be seen is whether the players are fit enough to play so much more cricket than they already are.
