Preview and Live Streaming of IPL2010 match Delhi Daredevils v Kolkata Knight Riders at Delhi
The Delhi Daredevils take on the Kolkata Knight Riders in today’s game at the Feroz Shah Kotla. Both teams are currently veering from rare good to the absolute rubbish with heavy doses of mediocrity in the middle and as the points table shows, lie in the bottom half of the table with six points from six games each.
This will be the seventh game for both the sides, that implies that half the league games would be done for both and the side that wins the game will go on to eight points – same as Royal Challengers Bangalore and Rajasthan Royals.
Kolkata has been scratchier of the two sides. Their problem, according to many of the experts is their captain’s inability to inspire, despite having had a couple of decent innings to boot. The most probable reason behind it is that gone are those flashy cover drives from his blade, those lofted shots off the spinners and the ability to charge a fast bowler and smack him away to the fence.
On the other hand, Delhi’s issues are more to do with their fitness woes and despite being termed as one of the weaker bowling attacks in the line-up by a few, one thinks that the previous win could just be a start of another two or three in a row.
Team News:
At the expense of being repetitive, one really thinks that the Knight Riders are erring in not getting in Charl Langeveldt – an excellent bowler in the death – in a format of the game which has often seen games turn away in the last 3-4 overs. However, with the team having won against the Punjab side last time around, and rather convincingly at that, one does not see any changes coming about. In David Hussey and Chris Gayle, Kolkata does have two of the better T20 players and will like to bat around them.
It must be said that if Delhi can keep Tillakaratne Dilshan out, have Gautam Gambhir injured and still win the matches, it is a reasonably strong side and one to watch out for in the latter half of the tournament. Kedar Jadhav and Umesh Yadav propped the side up with their relative newness in the team and Jadhav’s big hitting ability and Yadav’s pace will be on show again.
Head-to-Head:
Kolkata won the first game that was played between the two sides in the 2008 edition of the tournament. That was Shoaib Akhtar’s only contribution to the IPL before he limped off after a four wicket spell. This was followed by an abandoned game and two rather convincing wins for the Daredevils in the second edition of the tournament.
The Odds Checker:
Delhi goes into the game as favourites, 4/6 at Boylesports, even as Sporting Bet offers 4/3 for a Kolkata win.
