Preview and Live Streaming of IPL2010 match Deccan Chargers v Mumbai Indians at Mumbai

This starts off an interesting phase in the competition, with the top-ranked side for now, Mumbai Indians, taking on the fourth-placed Deccan Chargers at the Dr DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai. But, the positioning in the points table is such that a win here, a loss there, and we should see a total turnaround and hence, it will be a crucial game for both the sides.

Such is the narrowness amongst the teams, that only 2 points separate the top and sixth ranked side in the table. If Mumbai win, they will be clear leaders of the pack and with half a foot inside the door to get to the semi-finals. On the other hand, if Deccan Chargers go one-up on Mumbai, there will be three teams on the same eight-point position; Mumbai, Bangalore and Deccan. Of course, the result of the Rajasthan-Chennai game preceding this match would make a lot of difference to the points table as well!

Team News:
Mumbai Indians had made some interesting shuffle to their bowling line-up in their previous game when they had Ryan McLaren open their bowling. McLaren did extremely well and in the end, the eight overs between him and Harbhajan Singh was the difference between the two sides. However, what will worry the Mumbai Indians is that the other three, Zaheer, Malinga and Bravo were taken for a lot of runs and allowed the Super Kings to get away with a 180+ total.

With a batting that boasts of the likes of Adam Gilchrist, Andrew Symonds and Herschelle Gibbs, it is only natural that the Mumbai Indians will need to get more aggressive with the bowling, and probably even have Harbhajan Singh open the bowling. Tendulkar could also get a tad more flexible by getting in a few overs from Kieron Pollard.

Deccan Chargers lost the previous game to their poor shot selection and Yusuf Pathan’s explosion. They need to worry about a similar explosion from the bat of Pollard, who is long due to get going, but has been encouraged by Tendulkar at every step. Pollard possesses Pathan-like attributes to go after the bowling and if he replaces Rajgopal Satish at the top of the order, there could be some fireworks after he’s got set.

Chargers, on the other hand, need to take something home from the Rajasthan match and try and not lose their wickets in a hurry. That has been a perennial problem with teams in T20 cricket, that they have not been able to gauge what a good total would be, and have collapsed or played too slowly to lose out the race.

Head-to-Head:
3-1 to Deccan Chargers with the only game that they have lost was the home game – the one in Hyderabad – in 2008. This one is also a home game for Deccan, but much like Pakistan playing their home games against New Zealand in New Zealand, Chargers will be playing this against Mumbai in Mumbai!

The Odds Checker:
Mumbai Indians go in as favourites, and given Sachin Tendulkar’s form, one would be highly surprised if they didn’t. Expext.com offers 8/11 for them to win the game, while it is 5/4 (William Hill) for the Chargers to get to the top of the table as well.
