Symonds worried about excessive cricket

Freelance cricketer, Andrew Symonds has expressed caution over the overkill of cricket. He said that while increasing the number of games in the IPL was good, he was a tad worried about the fact that the matches would be played in the same amount of time.

Symonds was also concerned that as the tournament increases in length, the spectators would be left with inferior quality matches as the result of the “cattle not being looked after” something that the IPL Chairman and Commissioner will need to look into.

IPL will see two new teams entering the competition, which will increase the number of matches from 60 to 94 in the competition. This will also mean that the breaks for players between games will reduce.

Already teams are playing their games on almost every alternate days, with the Delhi Daredevils recently having played five games in a period of nine days. Injuries, player fatigue and spectator fatigue continue to remain the worries for the tournament officials.
