Luke Ronchi declared best player for Western Australia
Wicket-keeper of the Western Australian side Luke Ronchi,has been awarded the Laurie Sawle Medal as Western Australia’s Player of the Year, nudging the second placed Shaun Marsh by 15 votes. Ronchi had been a part of the Mumbai Indians side in the first edition of the IPL.
Apart from his wicket-keeping skills which saw him get 44 dismissals in the seasons, he was the top run-scorer in the Sheffield Shield with 716 at 47.73, that included three centuries. He won the Players’ Choice nomination after being a very useful contributor in the other shorter versions of the game.
Michael Hussey won the Gold Cup for the fourth time in five years, while Wes Robinson collected the Excalibur award. Mitchell Marsh clinched the Future Legend prize after leading Australia to a World Cup win in the Under-19 World Cup while Rene Farrell became the first player to win back-to-back Zoe Goss Medals for being the best woman cricketer.
