Damien Martyn excluded from Rajasthan Royals squad
Damien Martyn has been excluded from the Rajasthan Royals side in this edition of the Indian Premier League after the owners decided to trim the side to 19. Martyn has flown back to Australia and in all probabilities will be replaced by Shane Watson who is currently playing a Test series in New Zealand.
Martyn wrote on his blog, “By the time you read this I’ll be heading home.”
He also added that he had known from the beginning what his role was supposed to be and that is how professional sports was. He also said that he enjoyed his IPL debut and that it was ironic that it had to come against a bowler like Dale Steynbowling at 150 km/hr plus speeds.
Martyn struggled to put bat to ball and made a 19 off 24 balls. He also said that he was looking at coaching opportunities in the future with the side, much like most of the former cricketers.
Last year, Rajasthan Royals had done the same, cutting the side down immediately after they reached South Africa. Mohammad Kaif was one of the players who was relieved of his contract, and this time around he has been chosen to play for the Kings XI Punjab.
