Tharoor brought the Kochi consortium together for IPL bid
While Shashi Tharoor said that he was not one of those who had pumped in the money to win the bid for the 10th IPL team, Kochi, Tharoor was definitely one of those who were involved in making the consortium ready for the same.
Rendezvous Sports Pvt. Ltd. was the consortium that won the rights to the Kochi team from next year for a whopping sum of $333 million. The chief of IPL, Lalit Modi, also said that it was Tharoor who was the brainchild behind this bid.
Tharoor is a huge cricket fan and has co-authored a book along with Sharayar Khan, Shadows Across the Playing Field.
Tharoor himself was modest about his own involvement and said, “All I did on my part was to offer encouragement, blessings and expert advise when required to the bidders. Beyond that, I had no role to play. I understand it’s a business decision”
The other group that won the franchise was the Sahara Group, who named Pune as their side. They spent $370 million for their bid.
