Preview and Live Streaming of IPL2010 match Mumbai Indians vs Kolkata Knight Riders at Brabourne, Mumbai
Mumbai Indians will host the Kolkata Knight Riders in the 17th match of the third edition of the IPL. The Mumbai Indians had won their first two games in the tournament, against Rajasthan and Delhi, but then went on to lose to a rather strong Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Kolkata, on the other hand, had begun their campaign rather well, with a couple of wins from as many games, but then went to lose rather easily to Chennai and Rajasthan Royals.
The match will be played at the Brabourne Stadium, unlike the first edition in which the game was played at the Wankhede and which had seen the Knight Riders capitulate like nine pins. Oh and yeah, Shah rukh Khan is a Mumbaite who owns the Knight Riders. Clearly, the loyalties could be divided!
Team News:
Given that both teams will be going into the game with a loss each, it could be an interesting battle ahead. But, while Mumbai were simply out-bowled by the Royal Challengers, the Knight Riders never looked like they were in the hunt. One gets the sense, that the time is right to get in Chris Gayle at the top of the order, without whom the side looks a tad lost in its direction. Gayle could add that much-required fire-power that none of the others can provide at a more consistent basis than him.
Amongst the four players, who could make way for the West Indian cricketer, Owais Shah looks most likely to be replaced. Hodge has had a couple of decent knocks and has provided the starts that would be expected from him, whereas the medium-pace and batting of Angelo Mathews is almost necessary to provide the rightful balance to the side. With one of Charl Langeveldt and Shane Bond bound to be there, it only allows Shah to go out.
Sachin Tendulkar was very clear at the post-match conference that one loss did not necessitate them to panic. And one would like to believe that, given that the Bangalore side bowled really well at the Mumbai batsmen. However, one does get the feeling that Sanath Jayasuriya’s form since the previous edition of the IPL has been on a downward spiral and his position could be closely looked at. It is a major surprise for most Mumbai fans that an Abhishek Nayar hasn’t yet had his opportunity and one could see that happen in this game. Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard also did not have a great match with the bat or ball, and could look to up the ante in this one.
Head-to-Head:
Rather surprisingly, Mumbai has never lost a game to the Kolkata Knight Riders. The head record is 4-0, out of which, the Mumbai Indians have also sent the Knight Riders packing to 68 all out in one of the games. There is a new-look to the Knight Riders this time around, and they will look to change things around with that new-found enthusiasm.
The Odds Checker:
Totesport offers 8/13 for the Mumbai Indians to win the game while the same company gives 13/10 if Kolkata manage to win it. Not a surprise given the manner in which the Knight Riders looked almost too ragged against a bottom-placed Rajasthan side.
