The first game of the second Super Sunday will see the Deccan Chargers play the Delhi Daredevils at their new found home in Cuttack.
In fact, out of all the ‘homes’ that the Deccan Chargers have had in their IPL sojourn, the Barbati at Cuttack was the first such venue, yesterday, where they won a home-game. Unbelievable but true! The Chargers beat the Kings XI Punjab in a game that should have been easily pocked by the home team, but in the end, an Irfan Pathan cameo saw them huffing and puffing to a win.
The Delhi Daredevils had a rollicking start to the tournament with a couple of wins, but then slid to two successive losses to Mumbai Indians and the Chennai Super Kings. The form of T Dilshan is a sure problem, as is that of AB de Villiers, and one of the two will need to come good for the Daredevils to match up to the Chargers’ prowess.
Team News:
The Deccan Chargers will not fiddle around with their playing eleven too much, but they may have an injury concern surrounding VVS Laxman. This could allow the team to bring in Venugopal Rao, and that could also mean that Herschelle Gibbs may have to open the batting along with Adam Gilchrist, with one of Rohit Sharma or Venugopal coming in at the number three slot.
Part of Delhi’s travails would be to do with the fact that their captain, Gautam Gambhir, has not had any part to play in both the games, and hence, the batting, and in turn, the rest of the order has been affected. The cascading effect has been such that Gambhir’s absence has meant that Dave Warner was brought into the playing XI, which meant that another foreigner, Farveez Maharoof, had to be given the axe. Sarabjeet Ladda had a decent game or so, but it is evident that he is too inexperienced to be bowling his four overs and hence, the side had a newish look in the previous game. May not be too different in the game against the Deccan Chargers either.
Head-to-Head:
Delhi had won all four games against the Deccan Chargers in 2008 and 2009, only to come cropper against the Chargers in the all-important semi-final in the previous edition. Adam Gilchrist was the wrecker-in-chief in that match and will also be the man to look out for in this game.
The Odd(s) Corner:
Despite what has happened in the previous couple of games for both the sides, Delhi and Deccan, the Daredevils go into the game as marginal favourites, 10/11 (Sky Bet) as compared to 1/1 at Stan James. Surprising, given that Delhi has lost two successive games and Deccan has won them.
