Modi mulls second IPL abroad

Lalit Modi has rekindled the discussion on having a second IPL outside of India. He had earlier started speaking about this a few months ago, but then seemed to have stopped after receiving much criticism about this proposal.

However, with the roaring success of the tournament again in the third edition, he has said that he is looking at playing a few exhibition matches at grounds in various regions like the Middle-East, the UK and America. In fact, it had earlier been reported that the USACA chief, Don Lockerbie had met up with Lalit Modi to discuss the viability of having such a tournament.

Talking to the Times of India, Modi said, “This is just a proposal at the moment. The idea is to begin with exhibition matches overseas. It all depends on how the British, North American and Middle Eastern TV viewers react to this year’s IPL. Based on that, there could be a short IPL played outside India in the future”
