The tables have turned for Rajasthan Royals, especially since they had become the toast of the country in the first edition of the IPL. And for the worse, as they take on the Royal Challengers Bangalore in their third game of the tournament, hoping that they would be able to pick up the pieces and re-start their campaign that has progressively deteriorated since the news trickled in that Ravindra Jadeja will not represent the Rajasthan Royals in the tournament.
Royal Challengers Bangalore, on the other hand, bounced off an ordinary, one and a half games, to snuff out the hopes of Kings XI Punjab thanks to Jacques Kallis’ excellent knock.
Team News:
Rajasthan Royals have almost disintegrated as far as their team composition is concerned. Jadeja was not allowed, Graeme Smith had to pay a huge price for getting Sehwag out, so much so that he is out of the tournament now, and Dimitri Mascarenhas follows Smith out of the country as well. So what does that leave the Royals with? A chance to play, both, Adam Voges and Damien Martyn, though, Warne may also look at Johan Botha. Yusuf Pathan had also injured his shoulder and it remains to be seen whether he will make it to the side for this game. Most importantly, for Shane Warne to regain his bowling touch!
Royal Challengers Bangalore had made a couple of changes to their side in the previous game, but will be expected to come out with the same line-up; Mark Boucher keeping wickets and Vinay Kumar bowling in place of Reolof van der Merwe. However, depending on how the pitch at Bangalore plays, van der Merwe could be thought about as a replacement for Dale Steyn, who has been in anything but good bowling form.
Head-to-Head:
3-1 to the Rajasthan Royals, with Bangalore’s sole win coming in the 2009 edition’s first play-off between the two sides. A good chance for the Royal Challengers Bangalore to make a comeback into this head-to-head!
The Odd(s) Corner:
Ooh, that is a huge difference. Bangalore go into the game as huge favourites; 1/2 at Stan James as compared to Rajasthan Royals, who is being offered 23/12 (Expekt.com)!
