Two of the three most watched teams will be playing in IPL’s ninth game of the tournament when Mumbai Indians take on Delhi Daredevils at the Feroz Shah Kotla today.
But more than the two sides, all eyes will be on the Feroz Shah Kotla itself, and its pitch, which had come under quite a lot of scrutiny during the Champions League T20 in October, culminating into an ODI being abandoned between India and Sri Lanka and a subsequent one year ban on it.
Both sides are unbeaten in the tournament so far, with the Daredevils having both their games, while Mumbai winning the only match they have played.
Team News:
The Delhi side had acquitted themselves rather well in both the games that they have played in. Despite the close nature of the first match against Punjab, the win was always theirs for the taking, while Rajasthan were simply blown away by a Virender Sehwag-special. There shouldn’t be any change in the line-up, except, if Delhi want to go back to Yo Mahesh instead of Sarabjit Ladda, but apart from that, things look settled for the Daredevils.
Mumbai Indians may see a change or two. Even in the first game against the Rajasthan Royals, the Mumbai Indians batting seemed very brittle but the pair of Ambati Rayadu and Saurabh Tiwari saved the day for Mumbai. For this game, the batting can easily be strengthened by the inclusion of two all-rounders; Kieron Pollard and Dwayne Bravo, both of whom have joined the side after their series against Zimbabwe. Since Mumbai had become the first ever side in the history of IPL to go into the game with only three foreign players, they have one more slot ready and Bravo should be an easy shoo-in, whereas I get a sense that Ryan McLaren could be replaced by Pollard. Ali Murtuza may miss out as well.
Head-to-Head:
Delhi has beaten Mumbai on three consecutive occasions and will look to make it four in a row. This time around though, the Mumbai side looks a tad stronger than on previous occasions and it could very well be an evenly fought encounter.
The Odd(s) Corner:
Daredevils go into the game as favourites with the bookies offering 8/11 for their win, but rather surprisingly, the Mumbai Indians are at 6/5 (Bet Fred). One gets the sense that these odds do not take into account the return of the two West Indian players back into the side.
