Gautam Gambhir injures hamstring after fielding first against Mumbai
Gautam Gambhir injured his hamstring in the very first over of the match while chasing a Tendulkar stroke to mid-wicket.
He was in visual discomfort for most of the time he remained back, but it took him only three balls to go back to the pavilion to get his hammy checked. Dinesh Karthik takes over the captaincy of the side for the day.
Already the IPL has lost the presence of Graeme Smith, Dimitri Mascarenhas and MS Dhoni, and if Gautam Gambhir’s injury proves to be serious, it could mean that even he could miss out on the majority of the IPL.
Sanath Jayasuriya was the first batsman out, caught by Yogesh Nagar. It was a brilliant catch by Nagar, who dived behind himself at mid-off, flung himself into the air, and by the time he had caught it, the ball was already past him. Watch Yoesh Nagar’s catch’s video here.
