Captain Gambhir wins it for Delhi against Punjab

After two really high-profile games, the third one between Delhi Daredevils and the Kings XI Punjab did not excite or thrill as much as the others did, despite going right down to the wire. In the end, the Daredevils rode on Gautam Gambhir’s half century to emerge winners by five wickets and with only a ball to spare.

Gambhir earlier won the toss and decided to field first. The Punjab side lost wickets at regular intervals and slumped to 44/4. Ravi Bopara and Irfan Pathan rescued them a tad, but apart from the former’s 56 off 48 balls, none of the others got anywhere close to 25. Dirk Nannes ended with 2/12 off his four overs.

The target was 143 for a win, but the Daredevils lost early wickets to be reduced to 45/3, before Gambhir got going with the bat. Dinesh Karthik supported him with a 20, but in the end, it was an unbeaten 31 by Mithun Manhas that supported Gambhir’s 72 and guided the Daredevils to a win.

Gambhir won the man of the match award.
