Yusuf Pathan smashes scintillating century against Mumbai Indians
It has been such kind of a season for Yusuf Pathan. Whatever he touches turns to gold. Or goes to the boundary. Or both.
So, when the Royals were chasing a target of 213, a humongous one under the circumstances, given that the pitch at the Brabourne could have become conducive for the spinners given its dusty nature, not too many within the Royals camp would have given up hope.
Not even when they had lost their first four wickets for 66 in the tenth over. After all, the sleeping giant, Yusuf Pathan was still at the crease and warming up to the task. Or even heating up. Probably the second option.
11th over in progress. Second delivery patted away for a single by an unknown Dogra. Good on him. Good for the fans. Pathan on strike. He defends. No run.
ICL-return Ali Murtaza bowls. Six. Bowls again. Six. Again. Six.
Turn of Rajgopal Satish. 12th over. First ball for a single to Dogra again (will need to look up on him later!). Second ball. Six again. Check the ball for signs of domestic violence.
Next ball. Four. Then another four. Swings again. Another six. And in a matter of 21 balls, that is his half century!
In Pathan’s first 14 balls, he had only 15 to his name. In the next seven, Pathan had got to his half century!
As if to prove that it was not all brute power, the next three deliveries he faces all go to the boundary without him having lift a muscle in anger. Or at least figuratively speaking. Guides all three of them by using the bowler’s pace, to the off-side.
In the end, he got to a century, also with his favourite shot – a six – and the century had come off, would you believe it, 37 balls only!
Earlier Mumbai Indians had scored 212/6 in their 20 overs.
