Virender Sehwag signs up with Northamptonshire for Twenty20 Cup

Virender Sehwag has been signed up by Northamptonshire for their Twenty20 Cup to be played later this year. Northamptonshire were the losing semi-finalists last year and hence, had failed to qualify for the Champions League T20, for which, the two English counties which had qualified were Sussex and Somerset.

Sehwag’s signing comes close on the heels of Yuvraj Singh being in talks with Middlesex for inking the contract for the Twenty20 Cup. However, that deal, much like the Sehwag-Northamptonshire one, will need the approval of the BCCI. It will depend on whether the Indians feature in any international fixture during those months of the Twenty20 Cup.

Sehwag was earlier the captain of the Delhi Daredevils before giving up on the job for Gautam Gambhir to take over. Last year, Delhi had qualified for the Champions League T20.

Sachin Tendulkar was also tipped to sign a deal with Middlesex this year, but the plans were put paid after the maestro backed out because he thought his body needed rest. Adam Gilchrist, however, has signed up with Middlesex for the tournament.
