Younis Khan, Mohammad Yousuf handed life bans

Pakistan cricket was rocked again on Wednesday when Younis Khan and Mohammad Yousuf were handed life bans by Pakistan Cricket Board, which effectively means that they will never be able to play cricket for Pakistan again.

Apart from the two former captains, Shoaib Malik and Naved-ul-Hasan Rana were handed one year bans, whereas there Akmal brothers, Kamran and Umar, and Shahid Afridi will be on probabation for six months apart from being heavily fined. Kamran Akmal has been fined a sum of Rs.3 million, as has been Shahid Afridi, while Umar Akmal is fined Rs.2 million.

The recommendation had come from the enquiry committee that had probed into the heavy losses that the Pakistanis faced on the tour of Australia, where they lost all their games.

Earlier, it was rumoured that the only Naved-ul-Hasan Rana, Shoaib Malik, Kamran Akmal, Umar Akmal and Shahid Afridi will be handed over the punishments, and so the decision of Younis Khan and Mohammad Yousuf comes as a big shock.

The PCB chief, Ejaz Butt has said that the two senior-most players of Pakistan, Yousuf and Younis will now not be eligible to play in any of the three formats of the game for Pakistan, but can play domestic or county cricket. The reason that the board gave for their dismissal was, “Mohammad Yousuf and Younis Khan, keeping in view their infighting which resulted in bringing down the whole team, their attitude has a trickledown effect which is a bad influence for the whole team, should not be part of national team in any format”
