Kamran Akmal could be involved in match-fixing: Pakistan newspaper
A Pakistani newspaper has said on Friday that the player involved in match-fixing could be Kamran Akmal. The match in question was the Sydney Test match against Australia, a game in which the wicket-keeper dropped three catches of Michael Hussey, who, in turn went on to score a match-winning century.
Akmal was then involved in a controversy before the start of the third Test match, where he said that he would definitely be picked for the third game despite the fact that the Pakistan Cricket Board had sent in a replacement for Akmal.
He went on to score a 33-ball 64 in the one-off T20 game against Australia, but was then dropped for the two ODIs against England in Dubai. It was a surprise that he was dropped for the T20Is, in which Akmal is definitely a more appropriate wicket-keeper-batsman than Sarfaraz Ahmed, his replacement.
Match-fixing had reared its ugly head up in 2009 for Pakistan as many cricketers had found themselves in the inadvertent company of bookies on one of the tours. Earlier, it was widely suspected that Bob Woolmer had been murdered because he was planning to expose the wide net of match-fixing elements in 2007.
